Baby Phat's Con Game

I think it's disgusting that Kellwood Company, owners of Phat Fashions (which includes Baby Phat) for the past several years, is kicking out shoddy goods, causing people to think that Kimora Lee Simmons is behind those poor products. We are pushing the 7 month mark since Kimora announced that she was no longer going to be creative director at Phat Fashions. Kellwood remains silent.

Several times a week, in what seems to be a growing trend, someone on Twitter contacts Kimora to say that they picked up some Baby Phat item that was either falling apart at the seams, had a zipper break shortly after purchase or just plain didn't look worth a damn. These people are contacting Kimora because the scumbags at Kellwood have never, to this date, announced that she isn't there any longer. I think it's disingenuous and I think Kimora should sue the hell out of them for the trouble. She is still building her other brands and the last thing she needs is for people thinking that she no longer has the "touch" when it comes to creating brands that sell.

So, if you just stumbled upon this blog in a quest to find somebody to complain about Baby Phat gear, you need to contact Kellwood Company because Kimora doesn't have a damn thing to do with it. Let me know if you have a hard time finding a live person to speak with and I'll give you a direct number to the PR heffa up in there. Do not buy those products! No respect? No dollars. Visit Kimora at her newly designed website, www.kls.com. --Sugar

Kimora: Celebrating Evolution

And, the beat goes on. Kimora mentioned the other day that she was on the cover of the latest Jet Magazine and I couldn't wait to read the article. Writer Miki Turner does a fantastic job in those little pages of telling readers what Kimora has been up to and what a really busy life she leads.

Turner talks about the girls (Ming and Aoki) and that little goodie gum drop Kenzo Lee and the big goodie gum drop, Kimora's baby daddy, boo, luva luva, man and husband, Djimon Hounsou. It was such a great read and as I mentioned on Twitter earlier today, the discussion about Kimora and Djimon was very touching. He especially said some truly sweet words about her.

"I find her to be contagious and inspiring with a personality that is encouraging to others." Smoking, right?! Damn! That's a lil bit more than just some old run of the mill, "yeah, she's great," "she's a sweetie", etc. Those are the words of a man who has truly thought about how and why he loves his woman and it's just great.

Turner talks to Kimora about parting ways with Baby Phat, something that I hope will continue (Letting people know that Kimora is no longer heading up the brand, which Kellwood Company failed to do.) and it's all very exciting. Kimora tells Turner, "I'm in a very good place. By letting go of Baby Phat, it allows me the time and the focus to concentrate on an entire generation that has grown up with me. It's time."

Indeed! Pick up a copy of the March 14, 2011 edition of Jet Magazine and read the rest of the article. There are some great little nuggets in there! What? You thought I was gonna type up the whole damn article for ya?! Hell no. It costs $1.99. I got mine at Rite Aid.

Remember, don't buy any Baby Phat or Phat Farm clothing items. There is more than enough information right here on this little blog and elsewhere over the internet to let you know why you shouldn't. If you want to support Kimora, there are dozens of ways and reasons why you can continue to do so without having to spend a cent on Baby Phat.

Check out her newly designed website, http://www.kls.com/ and show her some love. Click "Brands" when you get there and get to shopping! --Sugar

Kimora's New Start IS Her Best Start

I just finished watching the season finale of Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane and I just HAD to blog right afterwards. In this episode, Kimora and her team were putting together a flash mob as a part of another promotional effort and there were some bumps and hiccups along the way. Including a horribly rainy forecast on the day of the event, a feed that seemed as though it wasn't going to go live and what looked like only a sparse crowd. But, just like always, things came together. Kimora danced, the team danced, Ming and Aoki and Kenzo danced, it was just all love. I'm so happy for her. That she and her team are finding new footing and moving..."onward and upward". It's just great. Check out a clip from the show below:

At the end of the episode, Kimora said a few words about how tough the past few months have been, yet how much they've been able to accomplish, and I can only imagine. It makes me so angry to think about how things appear to have unravelled during her parting from Baby Phat, but God knows what he's doing. I try to keep that in mind, but it's tough. I'm sure it's that much more difficult for her. But, the future is bright!

Kimora's website is all shiny and new, she's about to release a new skincare line called Shinto Clinical, a new children's line called Miyoki, has those great fragrances and Hello Kitty merchandise and she is, I'm sure, feverishly working on making her flagship brands, KLS and Kouture by Kimora, more robust. I don't even know her, but I feel her pain, and because she shares so much with us via Twitter :), in moments when I say prayers for my other family and friends, I toss a little request to God to look after KLS and her peeps too.

If you stumbled upon this blog for the first time, hey! :) I don't update it daily, sometimes not even weekly, but I try to keep it fresh with the big things. But, in case there's any wonder about it, I believe that you should refrain from purchasing any Baby Phat clothing items. The way they handled this situation with Kimora and we fans is just deplorable. At the very LEAST they could have sent out a press release announcing her departure. The very LEAST. They think that we are fools and Kimora and her team deserved more respect than they were given.

So, check out http://www.kls.com/ often, and leave her some comments! Feedback! That's what she's putting those things up there for! Follow her on Twitter, @OfficialKimora, and most of all, buy her brands!!! I know that you love Baby Phat. I know that it has a special little place in your heart, but continuing to support them is foolish. I'm sorry, but it is. Stand on principle. No respect? No dollars. Let's show Kellwood company that they don't get to disrespect a woman of color this way and they damn sure don't get to treat us like brainless robots. If you missed it, take a look at the flash mob below. I dare you not to smile. :) --Sugar

Hide Ya Kids, Hide Ya Life

When is this mess going to end already? Yesterday, Kimora Lee Simmons tweeted this:

Jst saw a HORRIBLE ad 4 kids tht looks like a bootleg version of my kids in an ad! SMH! Often imitated, never duplicated! :/ #shame #Really?! #beOriginal #fb

I thought to myself, "I know damn well Baby Phat hasn't tried to duplicate one of those Ming and Aoki ads." But, I'll be damn if I wasn't wrong. I went to the University of Pennsylvania's bookstore and took a little look see through some of the magazines in there and what do you know? Right there in People Style Watch, tucked away in a little bottom corner of one of the pages...an ad that is unmistakeably a knock-off of the styling used in Baby Phat ads featuring Kimora's daughters, Ming Lee and Aoki Lee Simmons, when Kimora was still in the driver's seat there....except that it sucks. Just like these ads for Baby Phat's Spring 2011 Collection.

Take a look at these ads with Ming and Aoki:

Now, look again at this new Baby Phat one:

Is there really any debate about what they were trying to do? Hell no, and if an individual didn't really take a hard look at the girls, they might not even realize that they aren't Ming and Aoki. Just terrible. Don't.Buy.This.Stuff. Don't do it. Check out Kimora's newly designed website to get the latest news on her brands and find ways to support her, including information about her upcoming skincare line, Shinto Clinical, because this is all so unfair. Kellwood (owner of Baby Phat) has some nerve trying to use that same styling for that shoot. The architect goes? The blueprints go with her. Seems you thought you could do it better. Well, do it bitches! --Sugar

A New Start, A Fancy New Website

On Valentine's Day, Kimora Lee Simmons sent a tweet announcing that she'd relaunched her website, KLS.com. As in, it's all shiny and new, complete with a fantastic photo library, videos, a place to keep up with some of the latest news involving Kimora, an area to learn more about the brands that Kimora owns and a blog, which she says she intends to update regularly. I think it looks fantastic, and I'm very glad that she and her team were able to get this taken care of. I'm sure that in the coming weeks and months, the site is going to be bustling with activity and I think it will be a great launch pad for Kimora's future initiatives, including her skincare line, Shinto Clinical.

Visit the site and leave a comment! I'm going to do so as soon as I finish this post. And, be sure to watch Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane every Sunday night on the Style Network at 9pm. I checked the website for the network and I didn't see any episodes past this coming Sunday, which I hope is not an indication that the season is almost over. But, I think maybe, just maybe, we get so greedy with our desire to look into these people's lives, we forget that...it's their lives! So, while I truly hope that the season isn't coming to an end, if so, I appreciate Kimora's willingness to even let us take the glimpse that she has allowed.

Remember, don't buy any Baby Phat clothing items and spread the word!!!! As I've said here before, Kimora didn't build that brand overnight and we damn sure aren't going to break it down overnight. But, the bricks are falling off the facade and no amount of patch work is going to do the trick either. No respect? No dollars. --Sugar

Craigslist Lets Scammers Use Kimora Lee Simmons's Name

Periodically, I go into just shy of foaming at the mouth rants (on and off Twitter) about the rampant human trafficking reportedly originating via Craigslist.org. Today, it appears, Kimora Lee Simmons's name is being used in, whether connected to human trafficking for sure or not, a scam to get aspiring models to a "casting call". See the ad below (click to enlarge):

How disgusting. Kimora only found out about it because one of her followers on Twitter asked her about the casting call that she was having. Kimora told her that she was not and checked it out after the young lady forwarded her the link. She responded with this:

Pls RT! This is a SCAM!! Not from me at all! I am NOT connected! A Shame for aspirational young fabs!--> http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tfr/2201533971.html #fauxfabulous #deranged #Lies #sad #fb
What I really don't understand is, why the hell is the ad still up?! Craig Newmark, the scumbag who founded Craigslist and who has on more than one occasion offered no good explanation for why he allows ads with underage girls to be posted on his site for "adult services", calls himself a "customer service rep and founder for Craigslist" on his own Twitter page. Well, get to serving Craig! Take the ad down!

Spread the word about this so no unsuspecting young men and women get themselves into a situation that they can't so easily get out of. Contact Craig Newmark via Twitter, or as one of Kimora's other followers suggested, go to the post and flag it as spam or prohibited. Always do your due dilligence and do some research before you go to these things. It's a crazy world out there. --Sugar
